No abuse, and no tolerance for it

Tabrillo has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. That covers group names, expense descriptions, comments, and the names people give themselves — anywhere text you write is seen by somebody else.

Content that targets a person, and people who behave that way, are removed. You can report anything you see and block anyone, from the screen it appears on. Reports are answered within 24 hours.

Blocking somebody does not cancel a debt. Balances are a record of what happened and they stay.

Expenses reflect money actually spent

You agree that expenses you enter describe real spending. Tabrillo is a shared ledger, and a ledger somebody has invented entries in is worse than no ledger at all — for everybody else in the group.

Every expense records who entered it and every change is kept. That is a feature, not surveillance: people argue about money, and the audit trail is how the argument ends.

Tabrillo never moves money

Tabrillo records who owes what. It does not process payments, hold balances, or connect to your bank. When you settle up, you pay the other person however you normally would — and then write down here that you did.

We never ask for bank details, card numbers or payment credentials, and we could not accept them if you offered.

Your account

You can use Tabrillo without an account by joining a group through an invite link. That account lives in the browser or app you created it in until you add an email address.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you share a device, anyone using it can act as you.

You can delete your account at any time from the account screen. Your name is removed and your entries stay as an anonymous record, because deleting them would silently change what everybody else in your groups is owed.

Paid features

Balances, history, every split method, offline use and the explanation of any number are free, and stay free. What is paid for is convenience on top of that: reading a receipt from a photograph, describing an expense in words, and the analysis features.

Subscriptions are billed by the app store you bought them through, and are managed and cancelled there.

When we can end this

We can suspend or remove an account that abuses other people, that exists to attack the service, or that we are required to remove by law. We will say why unless saying why would defeat the reason.

You can stop using Tabrillo whenever you like.

No warranty, and the limit of what we owe you

Tabrillo is provided as it is. We work hard on the arithmetic and we do not promise it is free of faults, that the service is always available, or that it fits any particular purpose.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law where you live.
